Dave Shapiro,

This email has a dual purpose.  1, is the status of the Chandler Rotary Track meet and 2, an update for the Arizona State Track Championship and season.

Realizing that there is no consensus on how long of a pandemic crisis we are in; we are still hoping to compete the Chandler Rotary Track meet on April 24 & 25th.  We will need to modify the time schedule and will not compete the Relay Session on Friday night. The week of April 20th is usually when districts and cities do their track championships.  However, we believe that pushing the Rotary back, we will hopefully see the slowing of new cases and have a grasp of what we can and cannot do.  If it turns to the point where track and field is cancelled in Arizona, I can see us running this meet as a USATF meet sometime in May.

We had one of the strongest fields who were planning on attending.  I hope that out of state teams and Arizona will be able to make this date.  The good thing (If there is such a thing) is that hotel prices will have dropped by 30% since it’s out of peak season for Phoenix.

I will be creating a new meet for the Rotary later today; so if you are able to attend can you please add the meet.

Arizona State Information.  At the AIA our mission and hope is to still compete a spring state championships season; with minimal to no school time being lost.  Since schools are closed till March 30; we believe that first week schools return will be for practice and then start competitions back up the week of April 6.

The track sports advisory is exploring a couple of options for 2020.  Regardless of which direction we take the tentative Arizona State Track Championships will occur on back to back Saturdays.  May 9 will be Day One, and May 16 will be the Day Two of state championships.  Since the meet is being pushed back state entries will be due on Monday May 4th at noon.  This would allow more invitationals the week of April 27—which is usually the last chance meet weeks.  There will also be no Meet of Champions this year.

This is the tentative hope and as we move closer we should have a firm grasp for where we are.  In the meantime stay safe and healthy
