Williams Field's Saira Prince and Millennium's Landen LeBlond Secure Sweeps, Basha's Gabby Garcia Three-Peats at Chandler Rotary Invitational

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Saira Prince and Landen LeBlond achieved memorable sweeps, Gabby Garcia produced a terrific trifecta and Mayen Usoro made quite an impact in her debut Saturday at the 83rd Chandler Rotary Invitational at Austin Field.

Prince rallied over the final three barriers in the elite 100-meter hurdles to repeat as champion in a wind-legal 13.86 seconds, then dominated the competition with an exceptional 42.06 effort for the No. 2 performance nationally this season in the elite 300 hurdles to become the first female athlete to sweep both events since Breanna Bernard-Joseph of Roosevelt High in California doubled in 2018.

Prince, who was selected the female track athlete of the meet, elevated to No. 5 in Arizona prep history in the 300 hurdles, in addition to ascending to the fifth-fastest all-time competitor at the Rotary meet.

She also became the first female competitor in meet history to win both elite hurdling events with sub-14 and sub-43 performances.

LeBlond, a junior at Millennium High, followed her 10:40.94 victory in the elite 3,200 meters Friday by winning the elite girls 1,600 with a 4:55.96 performance Saturday, becoming the first Arizona female athlete to sweep both events since Rolonda Jumbo of Chinle High in 2012.

Camryn Delancey, a freshman at Highland High in Arizona, was second in 5:06.96 and Phoenix Country Day junior Kimi Cahoon took third in 5:08.21.

Garcia, a junior at Basha High, triumphed in the elite javelin throw competition for the third year in a row with a 148-1 (45.14m) effort for the No. 4 mark in the country, highlighting a series that showcased five marks beyond 145 feet.

Kiara Reed, a senior at Hamilton High in Arizona, enjoyed a significant personal-best performance by throwing 138-1 (42.08m) to place second and junior Charli Koseoglu of Academy for Technology and the Classics in New Mexico also improved by more than 10 feet to achieve a lifetime-best 123-1 (37.51m) to take third.

Juliana Garcia, Gabby’s sophomore sister at Basha, was second in the elite shot put at 38-1.50 (11.62m) and finished fourth in the elite discus throw with a 118-6 (36.13m).

Mayen Usoro, a freshman at Cesar Chavez High, demonstrated that she has the potential to be the future of Arizona girls prep sprinting, winning the elite 100-meter dash in 11.68 and placing second in the elite 400 in 56.01.

Jasmine Haskell, a senior at Ironwood High in Arizona, held off Usoro to prevail in the elite 400 in 55.97, in addition to securing second in the elite 200 in 25.13.

J’Neya Hill, a Utah-bound senior at North Canyon High in Arizona, triumphed in the elite 200 in 24.92 and took third in the elite 100 in 12.07.

Maelynn Higgins, a North Carolina commit from Broomfield High in Colorado, prevailed in the elite 800 in 2:16.04.

Kori Martin helped Hamilton win the elite 4x100 relay in 47.30, in addition to finishing second in the 100 in 12.00, taking third in the elite 300 hurdles in 44.68 and finishing fifth in the elite 100 hurdles in 14.69, leading Prince before chopping the eighth barrier.

Canyon View High from Arizona edged Liberty High in Nevada by a 4:01.19 to 4:01.41 margin in the elite 4x400 relay.

Hadlee Hardt, a freshman at Queen Creek, won the seeded girls 3,200 meters in 11:49.40 and contributed to victory in the 4x800 relay in 9:48.75, teaming with Kamrie Johnson, Alona Haymore and Nicole Ripperdan.

Clare Palin of Chaparral High in Arizona, who was selected the female field event athlete of the meet, won the elite long jump with a leap of 18-10 (5.74m) and took third in the elite triple jump with a 37-9 (11.50m) effort. Palin also finished fourth in the seeded 100-meter dash in 12.50.

Ali’a Matavao, the two-time Gatorade Nevada girls basketball state player of the year at Liberty High, won the elite shot put with a 43-1.50 (13.14m) performance. Matavao, a Brigham Young commit, also placed 12th in the elite long jump and elite high jump.

Kaylee Daniel, a junior at Coronado High in Nevada, won the elite pole vault with a personal-best 12-1 (3.68m) clearance.

Jaiya Daniels, a sophomore at Los Alamos High in New Mexico, emerged victorious in a thrilling elite triple jump competition with a personal-best 38-3 (11.67m) effort. Alexa Hamilton of Pinnacle High in Arizona was second at 38-2 (11.63m).

Viann Vanderwall, a Utah State signee from Queen Creek, won the elite high jump based on fewer attempts after she and Bella Hofmann of Campo Verde High in Arizona both cleared 5-4 (1.63m). Vanderwall also took 11th in the elite 100 hurdles.

Campo Verde junior Brooklyn Montgomery secured victory in the elite discus throw with a 131-7 (40.12m) effort, along with taking third in the elite shot put at 37-5.75 (11.42m).

Sofia Lopes, a freshman at Liberty High in Nevada, won the seeded girls high jump Saturday with a 5-2 clearance (1.58m), in addition to prevailing in the seeded 100 hurdles in 15.96.
