El Paso Chapin Girls Set 4x200 Record, El Paso Eastwood Sweeps 4x800 Relays at Nike Chandler Rotary Invitational

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Gaining recognition in Texas when it comes to the 4x200-meter relay can be a challenge for even some of the country’s strongest lineups, with the state boasting 19 of the top 30 girls teams nationally this season.

Although El Paso Chapin might often be overshadowed on home soil, the quartet of Morgan Little, Caidence Johnson, Samadhi Foster and Maliyah Pride enjoyed a memorable moment Friday night at the 82nd NIKE Chandler Rotary Invitational.

El Paso Chapin clocked 1 minute, 41.52 seconds to not only set a program all-time mark, but also eclipse the meet record of 1:41.89 achieved in 2019 by Valor Christian High of Colorado.

The Huskies lowered the 2019 school record of 1:42.67 and ran the fastest time by any prep girls 4x200 lineup in the El Paso community.

Long Beach Jordan produced the first boys 4x200 victory by a California quartet since Murrieta Mesa in 2018, with Elijah Jones, Darryll Stevens, Jordan Washington and Damien Henderson clocking 1:27.82.

The Panthers ran 1:27.48 a week earlier at the California Relays, trailing only Cathedral and Fresno Central among the top teams in the state. California has three of the top 25 boys programs in the country this season.

Murrieta Mesa still holds the boys meet record of 1:27.27 from four years ago.

El Paso Eastwood swept the boys and girls 4x800 relays earlier in the day, including a program-record 9:43.96 from Adelynn Rodriguez, Salma Licon, Sophia Watts and Lauren Walls-Portillo.

It marked the fastest time by any girls 4x800 quartet from the El Paso community and eclipsed the 2008 school all-time mark of 10:03.41.

Victor Achondo, Mauricio Cuartas, Joaquin Chavez and Devon Paez prevailed in the boys 4x800 relay in 8:31.65 for El Paso Eastwood, which also received a victory in the boys 400 from George Garcia in 50.16..

Liberty High from Arizona triumphed in the boys distance medley relay in 11:26.42, with Chandler securing the girls DMR victory in 14:02.26.

Snowflake High won the girls 4x400 in 4:12.87 and added two of the top individual performances of the opening day, with junior Lydia Szabo – who didn’t compete on the relay – clocking 57.00 in the girls 400.

Caleb Anson, a senior, produced a personal-best 1:57.88 in the boys 800 for Snowflake.

Basha freshman Maddox Davis won the 100-meter dash in 11.05 and Coolidge sophomore Antonio Carrola clocked 22.44 in the boys 200.

Fisher Fraley of Summit High in Oregon prevailed in the boys 300 hurdles in 42.49, with Buck Ellis of Los Alamos High in New Mexico emerging victorious in the 1,600 in 4:38.13, along with finishing sixth in the 800 in 2:06.55.

Chandler Wilburn of The Classical Academy triumphed in the boys 3,200 in 9:51.81, with Perry earning a victory in the boys 4x400 in 3:27.07.

Kamrynn Smith, a sophomore at Youngker High in Arizona, won the girls 100-meter dash in 12.74 and placed ninth in the 200 in 26.97. Youngker was also seventh overall in the 4x400 relay in 4:25.19.

Trinity Bethea, a senior at Pinon High in Arizona, earned the win in the 200 in 25.83 and took third in the 100 in 12.78.

Olivia Taylor, a sophomore at Kofa High in Arizona, produced a personal-best 48.99 to secure victory in the 300 hurdles. Freshman Raegen Heckert of Centennial High in Arizona clocked 2:30.26 to take the girls 800.

Esther Cameron of Rio Rancho High in New Mexico, a junior, captured the girls 1,600 in 5:30.45, with sophomore Sophia Kellogg of Bishop Gorman High in Nevada prevailing in the 3,200 in 12:10.95.
